If that sounds like a bit of an exaggeration...it is! But consider this! This tiny 2x5 mile island, a hundred miles off the coast of America with a population around 20,000 welcomes almost 3,000,000 visitors a year. Walk down Duval Street during our tourist season, January to June, and just listen to the diversity of languages and people of all ages...all enjoying this unique island paradise. The annual average temperature is 77 degrees. No snow, no frost, no hundred degree temperatures and not even an excessive amount of rain (39 inches a year versus 74 inches just up in Miami).

We´ve been very blessed in regard to hurricanes. Key West hasn´t suffered a severe hurricane in over 70 years. Locals attribute that to the land mass of Cuba, 90 miles away and to the water currents in the Straights of Florida. Other locals attribute it to a well placed statue of the Virgin Mary strategically placed and prayed to behind the local Catholic Church.

Key West sunset Key West is a great place to do nothing; just relax! It´s also a great place to play, shop, tour, dine, entertain, swim, fish, dive and a great place to catch a sunset down at Mallory Square or at the top of the La Concha Hotel. We´ve included some information on things to do in town but check the 'Key West Citizen' particularly on Thursday and Friday for lists of current activities.

Key West celebrates its diversity and uniqueness with festivals like Fantasy Fest. We celebrate our Artists with numerous street fairs, Art in the Park, and art galleries every few hundred feet. We celebrate our history with Conch Republic Days and the Pirate Festival. Well really...Key West just celebrates... lobster season, fishing tournaments, boat races, Christmas parade, bed races down Duval, Taste of Key West, Gay Pride and even a Chicken Fest. We are actually still inventing reasons to celebrate. Come up with one and the mayor might give you the 'Keys to the City. We suggested Real Estate Agents Day but no one seemed to want to join that campaign.

How to get around Old Town is a frequently asked question. There is walking (check Webster´s dictionary if you haven´t seen that word in awhile) bicycles rent very cheap, pedicabs, small buses and taxi cabs. Cars are a bad idea because parking is limited. Motor Scooters are available but in our mind dangerous and we want you around as customers for a long time...plus some locals dislike the scooter noise. walk through old town
